I’m on way home from 4 nights in Melbourne and it was such a great (if busy!) trip. I came down Thursday night for a work related event, and asked to fly back a few days later so I could see some loved ones. I grew up in Melbourne, and my brothers and their families, and some of my oldest friends live in Melbourne, so it was a good opportunity.
I got such beautiful weather
Thursday was the work event! I painted my nails for the event and borrowed a dress from my mum (thanks mum!).
It was fun to dress up
It was a celebratory event for a professional development program I’d done for the last 2 years, and the other participants had become friends, so it was such a fun night!
Friday morning I woke early, looked at the time, went “nope!”, and actually fell back asleep. I slept in until 9.44 am! This never happens so I was thrilled. Then I got ready, jumped in an Uber, and met old friends for brunch! There was great conversation, yummy food, and I got to meet my friend’s cute baby for the first time. Happy times.
After brunch I was a lady of leisure so I wandered up to a shopping strip and wandered around. It was delightful.
Great day for a walk
Then I caught the train to the beach near where my younger brother and his family lives. I had a bit of time to kill so I wandered to water and looked out at the views.
I was picked up by my SIL a bit later, we picked up my niece and my bro joined as back at their place. It was was great to catch up. My niece is 4 and such a cutie! We played games, we ate Japanese- my niece loves gyoza 🥟 (Japanese dumplings) - my kind of girl. We drank Prosecco. And then we stayed up chatting, it was such a nice evening. Only negative was when I realised I’d left my phone charger at the hotel- nooo! Luckily my family is an Apple device family so I could borrow a charger!
Some art fun 🤩
On Saturday it was HOT and there was a beach morning. Lots of splashing in the shallows (the water is so cold that this was refreshing enough- only a few brave people were actually swimming). The beach has super cute beach boxes.
Saturday night and Sunday was more family time, and another friend catch up, a walk and a nap. My (other) SIL made a delicious home-made pasta dish. It was my first time helping to make fresh pasta, and it was fun.
Spinach pasta with a pork and beef ragu.
I flew home first thing this morning, and today I’m… tired. Great weekend away, but can’t wait to relax tonight with Al and have cuddles with my cuties.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
So wonderful you got to extend your work trip to spend some extra days in Melbourne with family!
I love that you were able to extend your work trip in order to visit family. It sounds like you had a great time with family. Heck, even your work party sounded like a good time. A win win. . I live in Chicago, so beach weather sounds great right about now. I'd love to go to Australia one day. My dad loves to travel. He's 84 now, but he did go to Australia (alone because my mom refused to go on such a long flight - she does NOT like to travel). I enjoyed your guest post on Elisabeth's blog.
That sounds like a perfect getaway! It is nice to travel on your own when you are used to having kids with you. Granted it is nice to travel with kids when you are seeing family but it’s nice to be on your own so you can really focus on your family. And being able to sleep in is so wonderful!!
Hi Sophie, I found you via Elisabeth's blog. It sounds like you had a fab few days away, and that weather? I'm envious.
Oh my goodness - I love that dress and red nails are SO fun. I haven't painted mine in a few months and I really need to get back into the habit because it is such a pick-me-up!
