This past week

  1. My sister in law and her husband are on holiday for a week in a resort close by. We’ve had a couple of fun visits. We loved catching up, so lovely for the kids to spend time with their aunty and uncle. Yesterday I picked the kids up from school and headed straight to their resort for a swim in the pool/spa, it was lovely. Enjoyed a beer up on their apartment balcony too. Then fish and chips at the beach.

The resort pool where we spent two hours yesterday afternoon. Sadly I forgot to take photos in the pool!

On the balcony with a beer after our swim.

2. Its Book Week dress up day for my daughter tomorrow, and we have had some debates about what she’ll go as. She said Poppy from Trolls (favourite movies right now), but this is not a book (I couldn’t even find a book of the movie at my local Kmart). So I’m now trying to convince to her go as a mermaid because we have a lovely mermaid costume and she has a few different books about mermaids. (Including the little Mermaid in book form). We will see- ha!

Last year E went as Elsa and luckily we had a Frozen book to go with her :)

3. Al and I had a friend’s kid free party last Saturday night and it was really fun! There was meat on the spit, margaritas, a fire pit, lots of great chats, music. And there wasn’t any requests for paw patrol, sibling fights, or kids climbing all over us and interrupting our conversation. Aahhh. The kids spent the night with their aunty and had a ball, so there was no guilt involved either.

Al, me and a margarita

4. It continues to be great having mum and dad close by. I had lunch with mum yesterday (see below), they are minding E on Friday because she’s got a pupil free day, we’ve been seeing them every weekend. So good.

5. I had a day off work yesterday, my first in a long time! I spent some time in our sunny backyard drinking a coffee, did a few overdue chores (which felt satisfying to tick them off the list), went shopping with mum (bought some clothes from Al’s shop!) and got lunch (we shared dumplings and pumpkin aranchini balls- yum!). Then headed home and grabbed swimmers, picked up E and O from school and headed to resort pool as described in item 1 😊. It was a great day.

What has everyone been up to? Anyone else struggle with Book Week? Any fun activities planned?

The family time all sounds so great. I am back at my parents to get the boys and can’t wait for my older sister to arrive because the boys love seeing their cousins. And they are better behaved with kids besides their sibling to play with! What a treat to have your parents so close, too! I would love that! My MIL is 30 min away but she is 81 and isn’t mobile enough to care for the boys for more than an hour or so. She will watch the boys the morning of my 10 mile race as Phil had a gold tourney that morning but I think it should be fine. I hope.

Luckily we have yet to…

How lovely Lisa that the boys will get to play with their cousins (and you see your sister!). And yes we are lucky to have my parents close by now, and are in good health and able to help us out. After 7 years of not having anyone that close, I’ll never take that for granted.
