I’ve had another blog post sitting in my drafts for a few days about all the fun stuff I did last week (couples night away! Saturday night dinner party!) but both E (our 6 year old) and I have been sick since Sunday so I haven’t managed to finish it yet.

So I’m leaving that fun one for a few days, and instead just a quick post about the current state of things. We were about due for an illness, thankfully it had been a few months since any major viruses had swept through our house, but so many around us had been sick lately with the change of seasons that it felt inevitable. E has had headache, fevers and cough for a few days, and I’ve had headache and fatigue since Sunday. Luckily O, Al and his parents seem to have avoided anything thus far.
It all seemed pretty mild until last night when poor E had a really high fever (our thermometer just ran out of batteries yesterday but she was burning up all over), which took quite a while to subside. I wondered if I might have been driving her to emergency at 1 in the morning, but luckily she did cool down and was lucid so we could just go back to sleep. But think we might be heading to the doctor today.
I was able to work from home yesterday and rest a bit too, I might do the same today. There’s one meeting I can’t miss but others can be moved. From experience I know it’s usually best to rest when I can or a virus like this will drag on.
I had a busy week planned at work BUT school is on break and Al’s parents are here to help care for E so on balance if we had to get sick it’s not the worst timing (we’ve definitely had worse- a few notable examples are Christmas Day, in the middle of a family trip, while on an international work trip, etc!).
Anyway I guess we’ll wait to see if the other members of the family also get sick (probably? But I hope not). Wish us luck, and I’ll be back with a more fun update later in the week. Stay well everyone,
Hi, I am sorry to hear that sickness is sweeping through your household. November and December were rough here, too, with the colder weather. I just reflected on taking sick days off work on my blog... It's tough to find balance as a full time working parent, for sure. hang in there!
Ooh! I managed to comment with google this time (but it's Jenny from Runnersfly.com again.)
Ugh- I hope you guys are feeling better now. It's probably just about the right time for you to feel better, and the others in your family to start feeling sick (sigh.)
My son has a knack of getting sick at the absolute worse times- and yes in 2021 we both had Covid on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day- those were the worst days of our illness. Seriously??? Of all the days in the year??...
