Q2 review

So I'm a couple of weeks into my third quintile for the year. I've organised my quintiles based on the four school terms in Australia, plus the 6 week summer school break as Q5. Which means that Q1 for me basically starts in late January, which I don't mind because I can spend the first few weeks of the year as an "on ramp" to my goals of the year - ha! Now that I'm trying out some daily blogging, I thought it might be good to share a Q2 review, better a little late than never. I will then share my Q3 goals tomorrow.

Q2 included some fun things. E's 9th Birthday, a visit from interstate family, a weekend in Brisbane to the go to the horse racing! So it was a good and busy quintile. Thinking back to my goals though, what were my Q2 goals? A visit to my previous blog post tells me that in April I said:

In Q2 I want to focus on painting E's bedroom, finishing the current manuscripts for work I have in progress, attending the writing Masterclass, decluttering a few more areas of the house, working on our kid routines as school progresses, and maybe plan a trip to Melbourne to meet some friends new babies!

So how did I go with this?

  • Painting E's bedroom - NO. Just didn't get to it. Her bedroom remains a yellow/red colour combination. Its OK for now. We do plan to finish painting the toilet this weekend (its been half painted for months!), but the bedroom is a bigger job and I can't see any free weekends for a while.

  • Finish current manuscripts (research articles for work) I have in progress - PARTLY. I submitted one for publication, its under review. One other is in progress.

  • Declutter a few more areas of the house - YES. This has gone very well. I've done the kids toy area, my drawers in the master bedroom, our papers and the kids art work.

  • Attending the writing Masterclass - YES. This was SO good. I've also made progress on writing my novel (almost 20% into my first draft).

  • Working on our kid routines as school progresses - PARTLY. We have a few (school shoes near front door, bags on their shelf), but would still like a few more (evening tidy up is not consistent).

  • Plan a trip to Melbourne to meet my friends' new babies - YES. I've booked a very short (less than 48 hours!) trip in a couple of weeks. I'm combining this with a visit to my brother for his 50th birthday too, so it will be a very full weekend, but also very special.

In the spirit of short, regular posts I'll stop there.

Feel free to share any wins or challenges from goals from the past few months.

Your Melbourne trip will be great! It’s nice to combine family and friend time!

My big accomplishment in the last few months was organizing the windowseat shelves between our kitchen and dining room. They become a catch all area for things that don’t have a home. I took everything off them, wiped the shelves down, and got rid of a lot of stuff which felt good!
