We are here!
Current view
Yesterday I had the morning with the kids while Al worked, so I tidied/cleaned the house, we did some yard work together, kids played playdough while I packed and prepped to leave.
Good old Playdough
It always feels like a pretty epic effort to prep to leave even for only two nights, but I did some extra things as a favour to my future self, so I can relax when we get home Tuesday. Which I think is worth it. I also packed a whole lot of food and drinks so we didn’t need to buy as much at the hotel, which we were super glad of when we arrived!
We drove to meet Al at the resort at about 2.15, and the drive took a grand total of… 23 minutes! 😂 I was so glad for the short travel. We checked in and the kids were so excited to stay in a hotel. It was cute!
Immediately after this photo they were banned from jumping on the bed, but look how excited they are!
After we checked in, we had a go at the splash park (with a beer), jump on the jumping pillow, then back to the hotel to watch some Cartoon Network while I walked down and got us (really good) fish and chips.
Bouncy pillow fun!
We were all tired so it was an early night, pretty decent sleep, and then relaxed morning. We had a couple of hours before Al had to head out to work (around the corner), so we went for a walk along the water, then back to the splash park for more fun.
Off for our walk
Spotting pelicans
Lovely day ☀️
Then picked up coffee and the kids wanted more pool and bouncy pillow time.
Al coaxing O into the pool
O is very hesitant about new things, so hasn’t been sure of the water so far, (and last night even said “can we go home?” Ha!), but has had fun playing around the pool with rocks etc. Eating ice cream, and lots of bouncy pillow action.
E has been LOVING the splash park, and I’ve been honestly enjoying our time so far. Al headed off the work an hour ago, and my parents arrive soon to hang out (another benefit of a holiday close to home!)
A girl in her element
Hope everyone’s weekend has been good! Very grateful I have the next two days off before it’s back to work.
What a fun getaway! I have never been to a resort with our kids but they would love a place like this! We don’t live in a resort area though unless it’s indoors so would have to travel quite a ways to get to a place like that. I love how excited they were about the hotel! I loved hotels as a kid, too!
This looks so fun! Yes, kids love hotels. When they're this age, sometimes it's not really worth it to go far away, when they're so happy just staying in a hotel close to home. I'm off to read Part 2 right now...
I'm so happy to read this, Sophie! The logistics for leaving home are never simple (at least with kids in tow), but it's worth it. And I love that you didn't have a long commute. That makes it nicer for everyone but you still get the vacation vibe without plane tickets or exhausted kiddos.
What's not to love about water, ice cream, sunshine, and bouncy mats? Sign me up too :)
