Weekend report

It was a long weekend for me - I had Friday off from work, and it ended up being such a fun one. The kids and Al had school and work on Friday, so I took advantage and after dropping the kids at school, I headed out for a relaxation massage. It was a 60 minute massage with hot stones, aromatherapy oils, the works. So nice.
Then I went looking for a new outfit for the horse racing we were attending the next day. I had a dress I'd borrowed from my SIL, and it looked nice BUT it was strapless and not comfortable. So I was hoping I might find a nice, comfortable dress to wear at a local department store. I also wanted a blazer (which I wanted for work as well). I had a Prezzee voucher I'd been given, which could be converted to gift vouchers for hundreds of stores, which was burning a hole in my (virtual) pocket! Anyway I looked through first store (David Jones), with no luck. The second store, Myer, I actually found a few outfits, plus many clothes were on sale, so I had some fun trying on some things. I finally landed on a black dress and a tartan blazer, which both fitted really well and would work for both social events AND work events (important because I just don't have that many social events!).
Anyway, I went to pay, but somehow I accidently transferred the Prezzee gift voucher money to the WRONG store (David Jones instead of Myer). I only realised when I got the counter and the sales assistant looked confused. What an idiot! I couldn't believe I'd done something so stupid! And embarrassing (DJs and Myer are competitors!). But I decided to buy the outfit anyway (it was too nice to leave), and find something else to buy from David Jones another time. SO it was an expensive day but a good one.
After picking up the kids, tidying the house, and Al arriving home, we drove the kids to Al's parents house, where they were excited to have a two night sleepover! And then Al and I drove to our hotel we had booked in Brisbane. A budget motel near the racecourse, but also near the Brisbane river with nice restaurants and bars. So that's where we headed out Friday night on a date night! We wandered along and chose a Chinese restaurant, where the food was delicious and the service was terrible. Haha, oh well. Then afterwards we found a nice bar with some live music and had a drink there too. Was a fun novelty to be out and about on a Friday night in the "big smoke"!
After a good sleep in on Saturday morning, I went for a solo walk along the river in the sunshine (it has been raining a lot recently so I was glad for a sunny morning), and then got a coffee and a donut (breakfast of champions!), at a local cafe and did some journal writing and planning. Then it was time to head back and get ready for the races. My SIL had texted me because she was staying opposite David Jones in the Brisbane CBD, and wanted to know if I still needed a fascinator (I did!). So I said yes please - and by the way I have a gift voucher she could use! HA! So at least part of the DJs gift voucher got used straight away.
The races were really fun! The group we went with were lovely (our sister and brother in law and their friends), our table was right near the winning post, and we had a nice selection of sandwiches and cheeses for lunch, along with drinks of course. The sun shined a lot (there were a couple of rain showers, but that gave me a chance to wear my new blazer!), and we put on a few bets. After the races, we walked to a nearby restaurant for a delicious Vietnamese banquet, and made it back to the hotel not too late.
The next day we were tired, but spent a couple of nice hours with Al's parents when we went to pick up the kids. Then a relaxed afternoon at home, ready for the week. So that was the weekend - expensive, decadent (by our standards!), very fun. And now back to reality, with a bit more pep in my step.

I love your dress and hat! You look so stylish in it! And that blazer is a great purchase, too. I am glad you had some time away from the kids to rest and reconnect. That is so important and special when it happens! And your massage sounded amazing!!!
Oh my goodness, I LOVE your outfit. It looks so comfortable and stylish and I have never worn a fascinator or been to a horse race, so it all sounds fabulous and so interesting. Even more amazing- time away from the kiddos! I'm so glad you were able to make this weekend work.
